Paddling Your Fishing Kayak Like Never Before:
Kayak Skiing & WaveWalking
What's kayak skiing?
It's
paddling standing in your kayak. Some call it 'Human Powered Water
Skiing' and we call it wavewalking if it's done at sea: You paddle on both sides of the kayak or on one
side. Adults
normally need a paddle that's longer than a regular kayak
paddle.
How useful is it for fishing? It's useful in many ways:
First it reduces fatigue and eliminates leg numbnesss and back pains
caused by sitting. It also enables effective scouting and sight
fishing, as well as better casting and landing fish.
How easy is
it?
Very
easy when you do it in a W kayak. It can from minutes hours to learn even if you have no previous paddling or
skiing experience
How fast can
I go?
If
you're good you can go as fast as when you paddle seated
Can I kayak ski at sea?
Yes - you can even paddle ski in the surf after some practicing - We sometime call it 'wfishingkayaksing'
Can I kayak ski in
whitewater?
Yes,
but you may want to practice on flat water first, then in fast streams,
and so on - like you would progress in seated paddling, and you should wear a helmet and possibly other protectice gear.
Can you kayak ski in
tandem?
Yes -
The W fishig kayak can take two lightweight passengers, and both may paddle ski.
Do I need
any bindings?
You
don't need bindings, shoes or straps of any kind.
Can
children kayak ski?
It's
easy for children to paddle ski - they even seem to prefer kayak skiing over seated kayaking.
Can I use a kayak skiing
paddle for seated paddling?
Yes,
since it's only 9 feet long.
Can I steer
the boat while
kayak skiing on one side?
Yes - it's similar to steering a canoe using a J stroke on one side.
